Dynamic Internet Overlay Deployment and Management Using the X-Bone
نویسنده
چکیده
The X-Bone dynamically deploys and manages Internet overlays to reduce configuration effort and increase network component sharing. The X-Bone discovers, configures, and monitors network resources to create overlays over existing IP networks. Overlays are useful for deploying overlapping virtual networks on shared infrastructure and for simplifying topology. The X-Bone extends current overlay management by adding dynamic resource discovery, deployment, and monitoring, and allows network components (hosts, routers) to participate simultaneously in multiple overlays. Its two-layer IP in IP tunneled overlays support existing applications and unmodified routing, multicast, and DNS services in unmodified host operating systems. This two-layer scheme uniquely supports recursive overlays, useful for fault tolerance and dynamic relocation. The X-Bone uses multicast to simplify resource discovery, and provides secure deployment as well as secure overlays. This paper presents the X-Bone architecture, and discusses its components and features, and their performance impact.

متن کاملTHE X - BONE Joe Touch
The X-Bone is a system for the rapid, automated deployment and management of overlay networks. Overlay networks use encapsulation to enable virtual infrastructure, and they are being used more frequently to implement experimental networks and dedicated subnets over the Internet. Existing overlays, such as the M-Bone for multicast IP and 6-Bone for IPv6, require manual configuration and manageme...
متن کاملWeb Service Deployment and Management Using the X-bone
In this paper we present a system for automatic deployment and management of web services. The problem we try to solve is how to introduce new distributed services in a network. Today deployment of a distributed service is a costly and time consuming process which requires obtaining network topology and a well thought placement and organization of servers, besides installation, configuration an...
متن کاملIssues in Overlay Multicast Networks: Dynamic Routing and Communication Cost
Overlay networks are becoming a popular vehicle for deploying advanced services in the Internet. One such service is multicast. Unlike conventional IP multicast, which requires universal deployment of network layer mechanisms, the overlay multicast model leverages the existing unicast mechanism and offers many service flexibilities to applications. Implementing multicast without requiring netwo...
متن کاملPeerCast: Churn-resilient end system multicast on heterogeneous overlay networks
The lack of wide deployment of IP multicast in the Internet has prompted researchers to propose end system multicast or application-level multicast as an alternate approach. However, end system multicast, by its very nature, suffers from several performance limitations, including, high communication overheads due to duplicate data transfers over same physical links, uneven load distribution cau...
